He has worked in leisure and hospitality for 12 years starting his journey with Warner Leisure Hotels as a leisure assistant working in the gym at Alvaston Hall. After splitting his time between working in the gym and working in the bar and restaurant it was the bar that inspired him the most and soon found himself as the bar team leader for 2 years hosting cocktail masterclasses and wine and gin tastings.
“Working for Warner hotels was great as it allowed me to experience all different aspects of the hospitality industry within the same company. It also meant I got the chance to work in some great locations such as the Elizabethan mansion Littlecote House where Henry VIII met Jane Seymour and Bodelwyddan Castle which is next to where they now film I’m a Celebrity”
It was during this period when Chris, at the age of 19, started to progress his career as a bar manager at a 2 rosette restaurant and then on to a duty manager working in the restaurant managing a team of staff. He also worked alongside Star Breaks where he got to meet Ken Dodd, Catherine Jenkins, Russell Watson and Collabro, the 2014 Britain’s Got Talent winners.
“After 6 years at Warner’s I decided I wanted to get some experience working in some busy city bars and over a period of about 4 years I worked in the Alchemist in Leeds before moving to the Botanist. This was a great experience but after a number of years moving around the country, I decided I wanted to move back to where I grew up and got a job working at the Residence in Nantwich where I worked up to the position of Assistant General Manager”
In September 2017 Chris started his Parogon journey, joining the Swan with Two Necks as a Senior Assistant Manager and after showing a natural talent for engaging with his team he was quickly appointed the In-Store Trainer, heading up the training on both bar and floor.
“Training people is something I really love to do and when the opportunity came up for me to work as an Area Trainer for the group I jumped at the chance. One of my first responsibilities was creating and leading a training plan for all the front of house and management teams at the Red House when it opened in 2019, which I am pleased to say was a great success”
Since then his role has evolved and after a tricky few months of lockdown, brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, Chris was moved into the role of heading up all of the learning and development across the Parogon Group with his focus on developing the teams to allow individuals to progress through the group.
However, it’s not all about work and when Chris isn’t busy training our team members and creating new training resources he enjoys a round of golf to help him unwind
He is also a keen foodie and loves to eat out whenever he gets the opportunity, and his favourite place to visit is Manchester.
As Parogon continues to expand, and our work force becomes bigger, Chris’s role is a great addition to the company, and his passion for developing and training people will be vital as he evolves Parogon’s training culture.
